Pride

Pride was pretty fun yesterday. There were a bunch of people there, maybe 5-10 thousand. There were gigantic floats on flatbed trucks blaring dance music with topless men dancing poorly. One of these floats featured Greg Louganis, the Olympic gold metal diver holding a small dog. There were tons of other floats, many marriage themed, and folks walking with banners representing congregations, organizations, and supportive legislators. Apparently Dennis Kucinich spoke at the festival that followed the parade, but he spoke early — at 12:30, so most people missed that.

As the afternoon wore on the entertainment at the festival got pretty awful. The day culminated with a performance by gay, Jewish R&B artist (!?) Ari Gold. See Ethan’s blog for more on Ari, my new personal hero. Ari’s performance inspired me to drop out of grad school, and wander despondently around Boston.

Today is the monthly Sacred Harp singing in Middletown. After talking with Neely on Friday I decided to bring the four pieces I’d initially planned on bringing, S. L. H., Lawrence, Divinity, and Sharon New (formerly called Sharon). All four pieces are currently featured on my shape note music website.
