The School of Humanities and Social Sciences, the School of Architecture, and the Arts Department announce:

Work Play Show

a charrette to design west hall grad studios

What could the electronic arts studio of the future look like? How can we design a flexible, functional space for creating and presenting electronic artwork? How can space enable community?

The charrette is open to all Rensselaer graduate and undergraduate students in teams of up to five members. Plenty of scrumptious food for you to eat throughout the charrette.

Dates

Mixer
  • November 11, 6 PM – West Hall 1st Floor. Kathy High leads tours of West Hall. Michael Oatman presents the charrette. You meet and form teams, then party.
Charrette
  • November 18, 7 PM – West Hall Room 214. Welcome message from Architecture and iEAR. Popcorn and a Movie: Slaves of New York.
  • November 19, 9 AM to Midnight – West Hall Grad Space. The Charrette. Introductions by Yael Kanarek, Jesse Pearlman Karlsberg, Michael Oatman, Kathy High. Then develop your proposal with your team. Lots of yummy food: lunch, dinner, coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided.
  • November 20, 10 AM–West Hall Grad Space. Public viewing of proposals with judges Nato Thompson, Jacqueline Goss, and Susan Stewart. Discussion and presentation of awards at 3 PM.

Prizes

  • $1000 grand prize
  • $500 runner up
  • $250 honorable mention
  • $250 honorable mention

Proposals to be exhibited at West Hall Gallery 111

Judges

  • Nato Thompson is Associate Curator at MASS MoCA.  He was the curator for the exhibitions Fantastic! (2003); The Interventionists (2004); and Becoming Animal (2005).
  • Jacqueline Goss makes videos and web-based works exploring the rules, histories, and tools of language and mapmaking systems.
  • Susan Stewart, LEEDTM Accredited Professional, is a project manager at nationally recognized architecture and engineering firm Einhorn Yaffee Prescott.
