Romney Won’t Run for Re-election

The Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney announced today that he won’t seek re-election in 2006. This is a strategic move given the Governor’s presidential ambitions so that he can avoid a costly, tiring, and potentially losing race that would have to occur just before the start of the Presidential contest. Romney still faces an uphill battle for the Republican nomination, being from Massachusetts, with low name recognition, a brief and spotty record, and a strong religious faith that nonetheless may weird out mainstream Christian Republicans.
