Yahoo! Makes Smart Acquisitions

I’m way behind the times on this one, but apparently, Yahoo! bought del.icio.us in early December. With Flickr, del.icio.us helps form a collection of leading web tools for “power users,” a field where Yahoo seems to be leading right now. Google owns Picassa and Hello, which are decent products, but not quite competitive with Flickr for this particular market. And I don’t think Google has anything quite like del.icio.us, or even that much in the entire area of applied social networking tools.

(Orkut doesn’t count)

Anyhow, Yahoo! promises to treat del.icio.us like they’ve treated Flickr thus far: provide resources and don’t meddle too much. Let’s hope they follow through.
