So … Hi

Tuesday, August 8th, 2006

Well, looks like I haven’t posted to this blog since advertising the June Albany All-Day singing in, well, June [Doh, May]. Now it’s August. That makes this blog about as close to dead as it’s ever been.

Since I last posted I went on a 10-day trip to Alabama for Camp Fasola and a bunch of […]

I’m Awake Even Though it’s 5:15 in the Morning.

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

This is it. My thesis is due on Friday and I need to send it to my advisor this morning so that he can approve it in time for me to turn it in. I was going to blog about this while I take a five minute break, but it appears my server is down, […]

And … Done

Thursday, March 23rd, 2006

I just finished the rough draft of my MFA Thesis paper and sent it off to my advisor. It’s 91 pages long.

It’s a rough rough rough rough draft though. The writing is way below my ability, and it will certainly be torn to shreds and reorgazined.

My advisor’s going to read it today and call me […]

Uh Oh

Days until my I turn my thesis in to my committee: 7

Pages written so far: Way too few for me to admit to in a public setting!

Latest procrastination strategies:

MySpace
Two-hour brunches at Arnette’s
Going through the Sacred Harp and indexing all the fuging tunes by the order in which the parts enter, the date they were composed, […]

Sleepy Monday

Monday, March 13th, 2006

I’m back in Troy after spending the weekend in Western Mass for the Western Massachusetts Sacred Harp Convention. The convention was fantastic but tiring. Now, I’m trying to get up the energy to do some writing for my thesis paper, but I keep on falling asleep. Maybe I need to take a little nap first.

Yawn.

Post-Azariah

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

My thesis show yesterday went well. The singing sounded amazing. There were 55-60 people in attendance at the Old Songs building, including almost 20 shape note singers from as far away as Brattleboro, Boston, and New York City.

People thought the music and the book were beautiful. Some people seemed to get the story, but […]

Poetry

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

Tonight I wrote all nine poems for my thesis show — in less than two hours.

I’ve been trying to write these poems for the last two months, putting it off because I’ve been feeling insecure about my writing ability. Over the last week, after giving up on writing the story in verse, I wrote out […]

Too Late

Sunday, January 15th, 2006

Darn. I just found out about a summer residency that would be perfect for continuing the work that I’m doing right now for my MFA thesis. But — the application needs to be postmarked today. And I would need two reccommendation letters. I sent out an inquiry anyway to ask about the suitability of the […]

Sleep!

Saturday, December 17th, 2005

After writing a much longer paper than I’d intended to write from Wednesday night into Thursday morning I printed out a copy, turned in my ER gear, headed home, took a bath, and took a nap … that turned into a

very

long

sleep.

I slept for 21 and a half hours. From 2:30 PM to noon the next […]

I should link this nice little write up of the United Victorian Workers rally and march at the Victorian Stroll last Sunday (the link may only be up for a week, so read it while you can):
